Conclusion about the results of the tests of [Unipol]- waterproofing as the protective coating on the concrete about the basic qualitative indeves This work is executed in accordance with the calendar plan of the economic agreement of № of 1581/13-498-06/[ZhB] dated August 21, 2006. with the privately held company “[NPO] Of [korrzashchita]” on the theme: “Conducting of the tests of [Unipol]- waterproofing as the protective coating on the concrete about the basic qualitative indeves and the delivery of scientific and technical conclusion”.
1. Characteristic of materials and models, represented before the tests [Unipol]- waterproofing on the basis of enamel [SBE]-111 is the suspension of pigments and fillers before the solution of styrene-butadiene thermoplastics before the mixture of organic solvents, and is made on TU 2312-001-59846005-03 “enamel [SBE]-111 “[Unipol]- waterproofing.” The fundamental characteristics of the enamel represented before the tests and coating beyond its basis, are given before Table 1. For conducting the tests of coating on the basis of enamel [SBE]-111 “[Unipol]- waterproofing” on the concrete, by executor in the laboratory of corrosion and longevity of NIIZhB, were prepared the control models, and also the models of concrete, intended for putting the material.
Expenditure of materials per 1 cu. m of the concrete:
- Cement 320 kgf;
- Sand 630 kgf;
- Crushed stone -1120 kgf;
- Water 175 l.
Class of concrete on the strength Of [v]22,5.
For conducting the tests the following types of models are used:
- concrete cube samples with the size of 7x7x7[sm] for the tests at the point of frost resistance and water absorption;
- concrete cube samples with the size of 10x10[kh]10[sm] for the tests at the point of adhesion;
- concrete model- cylinders with the diameter of 15 cm and with a height of 5 cm, for the tests at the point of waterproofness;
- cement-sand (composition 1: 3) model- tile with the size of 14,5x9,5x2,5 cm with the tapered groove for the tests at the point of resistance to cracks.
After production concrete models were sustained in the camera of natural hardening at a temperature (20 + 5) o based on the relative humidity of air 80% during 28 days, then they were transmitted to customer for putting the material.
An application of coating “[Unipol]- waterproofing” accomplished the representatives of customer in privately held company “[NPO] Of [korrzashchita]” in accordance with “technological instruction beyond the putting”. The surface of all concrete models, before putting of material, is freed of dust. The humidity of the surface layer of concrete comprised less than 4%.
The surface of concrete models for the tests at the point of adhesion (series 2) was moistened directly before putting of material by brush method.
Before the putting enamel they diluted by the mixture of the solvents of xylene for the sake of the mineral spirits down the working viscosity 30 s on the viscosimeter [VZ]-246 with the diameter of nozzle 4 mm at a temperature (20+ 0,5) °[S]. putting coatings “[Unipol]- waterproofing” beyond the models achieved by a paint sprayer at a temperature of air + 20°[S] and relative humidities (65 + 5) % before five layers with the interlayer drying 1 hour the overall thickness of coating system on the average it composed 450 m. Expenditure of material for one layer of coating 0,22 [kg]/[m]2 Models with the applied coating maintained throughout the tests before the accomodation with the temperature of air (20 + 5) of o[S] and the relative humidity (65 + 5)% of 28 days. In accordance with the calendar progress chart are by agreement carried out the tests of coating system on the basis of priming enamel “Of [unipol]” about the following indices:
- the determination of the waterproofness of concrete with coating “Of [unipol]” with the straight and back pressure of water, in comparison with the control models;
- the determination of the frost resistance of concrete with coating “Of [unipol]” in comparison with the control models;
- the determination of water absorption of concrete with coating “Of [unipol]” in comparison with the control models;
- the determination of adhesion strength (adhesion) of coating “[Unipol]” with the concrete;
- the determination of the resistance to cracks of coating “[Unipol]” on the concrete.
2. DETERMINATION OF THE BASIC INDICES OF QUALITY OF COATING ON THE BASIS of [Unipol]- waterproofing ON THE CONCRETE. 2.1. The determination of waterproofness the determination of the waterproofness of concrete model- cylinders with the coating “[Unipol]” and the concrete models without the protection (control models) carried out in accordance with the requirements ALL-UNION STATE STAN. 12730.5-84 “concretes. Method of determining the waterproofness”. Tests are carried out beyond the special six-jack installation, which ensures the possibility of the water supply to lower butt end of model- cylinders and observation besides upper butt end of concrete.
Pressure raised as far as steps on 0.2 MPa, beginning for the sake of 0.2 MPa to 1,6 MPa they maintained against each step for 6 hours (with the thickness of models 5 cm). Tests continued before the appearance of signs of the filtration of water in the form of drops or wet spot beyond upper butt end. The waterproofness of a series of models was evaluated by the maximum pressure of water, with which down four of six models it is not observed the signs of the filtration of water.
For the concrete models with coating “Of [unipol]” of testing they carried out at a straight (based on the side of coating) and reverse (based on the side of the end of model, not processed by coating) pressure of water.

In accordance with the results of tests the coating “[Unipol]- waterproofing” possesses high waterproofness and increases stamp on the waterproofness of concrete at a straight pressure of water beyond seven steps, with the reverse - down two steps.
2.2. Determination of the frost resistance The determination of the frost resistance of concrete models with coating “Of [unipol]” and of concrete models without the protection (control models) carried out in accordance with the requirements ALL-UNION STATE STAN. 10060.2-95 “concretes. Methods of determining the frost resistance”. Frost resistance determined about the accelerated method (third method) with repeated variable freezing- thawing before 5% solution of sodium chloride at a temperature minus (50±5) of o[S]. The thawing of models occurred at a temperature plus (18±2) of o[S].

The frost resistance of coating on the concrete evaluated with the number of cycles of freezing - thawing, with which before a series of six models down four it was not observed the destruction of coating (in appearance) and reduction in the value of adhesion to the concrete more than down 35% based on the initial value.
The results of freezing tests showed, the models of concrete with the coating “[Unipol]- waterproofing” maintained practically without the changes 15 cycles of freezing- thawing, concrete without the protection - 5 cycles, that correspond to frost resistance 500 and 200 cycles respectively.
2.3. Determination of water absorption Water absorption of concrete models with the coating on the basis of priming enamel “Of [unipol]” and control models determined with the use ALL-UNION STATE STAN. 12730.3-78 “concretes. Method of determining water absorption”. Models saturated by water with the complete sinking to a constant mass.
Water absorption (WH) was determined from the formula:
WH = (mH- mo) /mo, %where mH - mass of the water-saturated model, g; mo - mass of model up to immersion beside the water, g.
In accordance with the results of tests the value of the quantity of water absorption of concrete models with the coating “[Unipol]- waterproofing” composed 2,14% off the mass, the control models of concrete (without the coating) -4,07%. Thus the application of coating “[Unipol]- waterproofing” makes it possible to decrease water absorption of concrete two times.
2.4. Determination of adhesion strength (adhesion) with the base. The determination of adhesion strength of coating “[Unipol]” with the concrete carried out in accordance with ALL-UNION STATE STAN. 28574-90 “corrosion protection before the building. Of constructions are concrete and are ferroconcrete. Methods for testing the adhesion of protective coatings”. For determining the quantitative value of the adhesion of materials to the base the method of normal detachment, which is consisted before the measurement of the pulling power of coating based on the protected surface with the aid of the metallic die stuck beyond the coating and the dynamometer, was used.
They calculated the value of the adhesion (R) of material about the formula:
R = OF F/A, MPawhere F - value of the force, with which occurred the detachment, N; And the area of detachment, [m]2.
The results of determining the adhesion of coating “[Unipol]- waterproofing” to the concrete showed that the coating possesses high adhesive properties. The value of the adhesion of coating to the concrete comprises not less than 2,8 MPa, in this case the nature of detachment - interlayer. Since adhesion strength of coating with the concrete base exceeds adhesion strength between the coverings to determine the influence of humid surface condition beyond the value of adhesion it was impossible.
2.5. Determination of the resistance to cracks of the coating For determining the resistance to cracks of coating “[Unipol]” on the concrete was used the method (PC COMECON (Council for Mutual Economic Assistance) 5634-76), most which closely simulates the conditions for crack formation under the coating before the ferroconcrete construction, during which the coating first is brought down the concrete model, and then with the tension of model before the concrete, under the coating, cracks are formed. Tests were conducted on the instrument, developed in the laboratory of the corrosion of NIIZhB.
Based on the moment of crack formation before the concrete of model above it they observed with the aid of the instrument [MPB]-2. At the point of the index of resistance to cracks assumed the width of crack opening before the concrete preceding that, with which was noticed the formation of the first defect before the coating above the crack.
The index of the resistance to cracks of coating on the concrete was determined about the results of testing three twin samples. The average value from the minimum values of crack opening, measured at the point of each of the test specimens, was taken at the point of the result of tests.
The results of tests showed that the represented coating “[Unipol]- waterproofing” is crackproof and maintains without the destruction the significant width of crack opening before the concrete. The index of the resistance to cracks of coating on the concrete was 1,2 mm.
3. General conclusions. The results of the tests of the system of protective coating “[Unipol]- waterproofing” on the basis of enamel [SBE]-111 (TU 2312-001-59846005-03) on the concrete about the basic qualitative indeves in comparison with the concrete without the protection are given before generalized Table 5. The results of the carried out tests make it possible to make following conclusions.
Coating on the basis “of [Unipol]- waterproofing” possesses high adhesive properties to the concrete surface (2,8 MPa), is crackproof and maintains the width of crack opening before the concrete 1,2 mm.
Putting coating system beyond the concrete makes it possible to increase the stamp of concrete before the waterproofness as far as 7 steps (W2 to W 16) at a straight pressure of water and against 2 steps (W2 to W 6) with the reverse, to increase frost resistance is more than 2,5 times (based on 200 to 500 cycles), to reduce the value of water absorption of concrete 2 times in comparison with the concrete without the protection.
Thus, the system of coating “[Unipol]- waterproofing” possesses high performance properties and can be [rekomendovana] for the anticorrosive protection of concrete and ferroconcrete constructions before the practice of civil and industrial construction in accordance with SNIP (Construction norms and regulations) 2.03.11-85, [MGSN] 2.08-01, [MGSN] 2.09-03, for waterproofing of buildings, underground structures, and also with the device of roofings.
